Default possible transmission problem? NOOOO

I've got an '02 C230K. 125Kmiles...

Couple weeks ago, while I was in DC, I start 'er up... step on the gas, and out of the blue she wouldn't get out of first gear. For ANYTHING.

I drove the whole way home 1000k below redline, at 45mph...

Started her up next day, tried to drive, and same thing. Would NOT get out of first gear...

Anyone had similar experiences? I'm praying PRAYING its not a transmission problem... I JUST paid her off!!!!

My mother has an 02' C240 and is having nearly the same issue.

She says her car will shift between 1st, 2nd and reverse but nothing else.

Her fiance had the the error codes read and it said something about an electrical malfunction and was in some sort of a "safe mode".

It's just been sitting in her garage. Anyone else experienced this issue?

Default More Info...

I found the print out from Advanced Auto Parts showing the error codes:

P0702 - Transmission Control System (Electrical)

Here is a link to a similar issue:

w202 auto box will not change gear

Could my mother's problem be the speed sensor? If yes, how much should she expect to pay for the repair?

I pulled my mom's car out of the garage and drove it around this morning.

It shifts very hard into reverse and drive. Drove around the neighborhood and was unable to get it to shift out of 1st gear. She has the AMG thingy and I couldn't "manually" shift between driving gears either.

I checked Star Tekinfo for Fault Code: P0702 and saw something about the Transmission Control Module.

Does the TCM hold further diagnostic codes that I should read?

I called a Mercedes Parts Department in Charlotte, NC this morning and they told me a new TCM was $417.90.

Will replacing the TCM fix my mother's issue or could it still be one of the sensors that sends info to the TCM?

I wouldn't go throwing parts at it. This is a case where it would be worth it to find a shop with a good scanner to get a better handle on the problem. Star Diagnostics like the dealer uses will be able to tell you the most about the actual problem. I hate to see you go to the stealership, but in the end they may be able to diagnose the problem the best.

Hello;
I am trying to get an idea on my1996 C280 doesnt go into any forward gears? It does go into reverse. You can hear pressure being released withing the tranny in the forward gears but it works just fine in reverse.

Thanks in advance.
