Default Not shifting up when using Kickdown

Hello hoping someone might have some knowledge of my problem. I've had a look at some other threads but can't find any answers.

I have a 98 C240, the transmission works perfectly in drive/reverse/etc. However if I use kick down it initially changes down (which is fine) but then the revs rise up to the redline and it won't shift up...

Has anyone had these problems or know whether its likely to be expensive to fix? At the moment when the revs rise up I have to drop off the accellerator so it shifts up in drive which isn't ideal.

Default Kickdown prob

Hi, first thing with any auto box problem is usually fluid. Does your box change smoothly when cold ? Auto box repairer has told me that 90% of problems are caused by dirty fluid and clogged up filters. My c200 is having fluid/filters changed tomorrow for this reason (£57+vat) not to pricey. Could also be the linkage on the side of your box. If you havent had fluid/filters changed or dont know when they were last done get this done first and ask the garage that you go to to give you a price to look and check the linkage at the same time, they might even do this for free while the car is up in the air. Hope this is of some help Steve......

Thanks, it shifts fine when cold in drive. I asked at a local garage who deal with quite a few old Mercs who suggested a diagnostics check and said it could possibly be a fault with the electronic plate responsible for the gear shifting... Might be a case of waiting a month until I've got the money to get it all sorted out..
