After driving 900 kilometers yesterday at touring speeds thru the mountains and freeways I was overtaking a line of vehicles up a hill with kickdown operating at 110kph when suddenly engine loses power, backfies thru exhaust and dropped speed to about 80kph.
It still runs but wont rev or kickdown without bad miss .
At first I thought it was blocked fuel filter so I blew back thru it and only a small amount of crud came out. Easy to blow thru too.

SLK still drives like a normall small car but wont accellerate fast with out running out of puff very quickly.

Any clues gents?

It was the MAF .

I wish I knew where the MAF is. I have exactly the same problem. Is anyone on this forum?

 

The MAF is in the front Left hand hose next to the radiator that goes from the intercooler to the inlet manifolf (1998 SLK).
Up next to the R/H rocker cover on later I thinkf.
Its a black tube with a wire connector on one side.
