I am proud to finally say that i have joined the Mercedes Benz family. A couple weeks ago i was able to get my dream car being a 1999 C280 Sport. we decided to go to a used car dealership to look at a car i found online, next thing i know we're driving back with a new car. I have been driving it every day and it is nice. I like how nice it handles and it is pretty quick. now i am just waiting to buff and wax it to get it looking factory new. i have noticed one problem though so maybe someone can help. there is a buzzing noise next to the rear view mirror and sunroof controls which only occurs when the car is on. i dont know if it is just mine or if it is a common problem. other then that its in great shape. now i am just waiting to customize it with rims, sound system and other stuff.

Welcome aboard, your with a great bunch of people.

buzzing noise: I have a 99 C280 and never heard this noise were you describe. Does it start as soon as U start the car? Does it sound like there is something loose up there, does it get louder if you hit a bump? Or does it increase with engine speed. It could be a couple of things. The garage door opener controls are in the rear view mirror, there could be something going on there. The temp sensor for the AC is located up there by the lights. Also it could be a bulb. Pry off the plastic covers on the interior lights, if you have a plastic tool for this purposed that would be the best or a small plastic spatula. there is a groove in the plastic for this purpose. Check the bulbs. Other then that, My first thought would be the garage door openers. Don't try and trouble shoout these. I had a friend who did and he would up paying $1000 for a new mirror. Is the buzz constant? Send me a PM and we can discuss further.

One other point, do you have your radio on? A lot of these buzzing noises come from the speakers. I have the Bose system and I noticed over the past few months when I turn the radio on or off, there is a thud in one of the rear speakers. Also you mentione custom sound system. According to how our car is equipped, and if you have the Bose system. Your going to be in for a lot of work. Compatability is the problem. Bose and Mercedes like to prioritize these sound systems. If you do have the Bose, you have a good system, it is a little weak on Bass. But added a small subwoofer, I suggest inside the rear arm rest on the back of the wall. ios a excellent place. You will have to add a amp, but this mod is easy. Changing the system itself could be a money drainer.

Is it the same type of buzzing noise heard when you turn off the dome lights. To check and see, get in your with nothing on and turn on the dome lights. Then turn them off and see if it's the same noise. Let me know.

Very likely it could be the temperature sensor aspirator. There is a little fan that sucks in air so the climate control knows the average in-car temperature.
