It's been three months, so the results for the Mercedes-Benz C-Classhave been updated again.

Repair rates, in terms of successful repair trips per 100 vehicles per year:

2005: 84, about average, but small sample size

2008: 59, about average

Additional participants would be very helpful for all years.

I still love my 201. People stopped asking me about the reliabilty about sixteen years ago. I would say: good so far. Twenty years later: good so far. Wow time flies.

My 09 C300 only has 130 miles after four weeks; so it will not likely be a signal car.

We have updated results for the C-Class. In terms of successful repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2008: 60, about average, and better than other Mercedes; good sample size

2006: 39, better than average, but based on a very small sample size

2005: 101, about average, maybe a bit worse, and based on a larger but still marginal sample size

The difference between the 2005 and the 2006 could be because Mercedes made some improvements with the 2006 refresh, or be because of the sample sizes. Most likely both. The actual repair rate is probably a little higher for the 2006, and a little lower for the 2005.

A big thanks to everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates in May, August, and November. With more participants, we could provide more precise information and cover all model years.

We now have a separate results page for each model that includes the results for competitors. The page for the C-Class:

W 202 IN THE C CLASSES, IF you maintain them are probably the last of the great mercedez benzes, according to people who really know about this cars long term durability.

I have 11 year old C 230, THE NATUZI leather they put into it looks just like the day it was bought, amazing. My brain washed LEXUS friends think that THE leather was replaced at some time, as I laugh IN THEIR FACE!!!

Agreed, the W202 came out in 1993, and is from the same era of the W140 and W124, all well built cars, from an age when they were overbuilt. Its the ones that came between 1995 to 2005 which were not built to old Mercedes standards, but they are trying to bring the reputation for build quality back, but they are finding it hard, just goes to show, once a reputation is tarnished, it stays that way for some time.

As with all older Mercedes, good servicing is the key, a bit of preventative servicing can go a long way too, stop known problems before they get out of hand!

Hehe do you laugh at him because of his thoughts on the leather, or because he drives a lexus, or both?

I have a 2002 C240.. It is absolute JUNK! it has been a total nightmare for me, I have spent SOOO much in repairs I could have bought a new Honda with the money I wasted! the happiest day of my life will be the day I unload it on some poor unsuspecting sucker.
Do yourself a favor, buy a Honda, Nissan or Toyota.. No body should have to stress out over a car they've spent ALOT OF MONEY ON!!!!

2008: 51, about average

2006: 29, better than average, but very small sample size; actual repair frequency probably about average

2005: 82, about average, marginal sample size

A big thanks to everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates in August and November. With more participants, we could provide more precise information and cover all model years.
