Hitch for 2005 C230K Sport Sedan
Hi all, I am an owner of a new 2005 C230K Sport Sedan. Just picked up my new ride a week ago and I am hoping to add a 1 1/4" Hitch to carry my bike rack. Has anyone had any luck finding a hitch ? I've found an online site http://www.hitch-web.com/ that carries Dolan hitch for the Mercedes but outrageously expensive. So, I am hoping someone can help me out.
Cheers

Only a dork would buy a roof rack when he really wants/needs a receiver hitch. The only thing you see when a 1 1/4" receiver is empty is a small square tube under the center of the rear bumper. Unlike a roof rack, a receiver is not visually intrusive at all when empty and you don't have to drill a bunch of holes into a painted surface to install it. A roof rack that clamps on temporarily looks worse of all.
If the empty receiver tube would bother you all that much, you can have it hidden under the car (shortened) and use an extension to get the receiver to the rear bumper when you want to use it. I use an extension when I have my camper on my truck and I need to tow something because the camper extends almost two feet beyond the rear bumper. Hence, I use a 24" extension in this situation.
And, it's a lot easier to load the bikes on a receiver hitch-type rack than a roof rack. They're handy for other things around where I live, too, like trailering a PWC to the lake or a motorcycle to the mountains or a small U-Haul so you can get that new lawnmower home from the store.
The other option.

Thanks for the replies. My intentions are to attach the hitch to the frame and not the bumper and short enough that it doesn't extend out too much. I've had a Yakima roof rack on my last MB, and although it looked ok, it was a pain to put up and remove. I also want to minimize the possiblity of scratching the roof in any way.
I called UHaul and they claim they can make custom hitch that would attach to the frame and not the bumper, and the 1 1/4" tube only extends to middle of the bumper. There are black plastic plugs that would cover the hitch tube when not in use
