More tech questions from a new Benz owner > 1997 MB C230

Oil : I'm seeing posts about synthetic oil for most all MB's. Do I use synthetic oil for my 97 C230? // what is oil change interval?

Brake fluid : I see in the owners manual : MB DOT-4

No transmission fluid dip stick?? how do you check?

Coolant: MB brand or will Prestone work OK??

thanks

kgl

I would use syn oil Mobil1 5/30w or whatever your dealer recommends, transmission is a sealed for life of vehicle, that's why there is no dipstick, I would suggest to have it changed around 100K and USE ONLY MERCEDES ANTIFREEZe, Prestone will probably will damage to the internals of the engine, Mercedes uses a special formual long, long life antifreeze and if you put Prestone in, have it change to Mercedes. My 99 C280 has the FSS on the V6 I use 0/30w Mobil 1, one of only a few oils recommended for this engine. You can buy a dipstick for checking fluid level only, and is not meant to stay in the car, very expensive however. How many miles on the car? My oil change intervals are 10K but I change my own oil every 5K, if you have an owners manual it should state what the intervals are.
