Default Fuel pump question

Does anyone have a problem with an Express Oil changing the fuel pump on a 98 C280. I change the oil myself but don't know how to change the fuel pump. I can get the part wholesale, but don't want to pay MB charges to replace the pump. I appreciate your help.

Thanks,
FA

Default RE: Fuel pump question

It all depends on their competence. I get my work done by an independent garage that specializes in MB, are extremely competent, and whose prices are well below a dealerships. Unless these guys have some experience with MB and were recommended to you by a satisfied MB owner, I would probably look elsewhere. I'm very finicky about who works on my car. That said, I don't believe replacing a fuel pump takes a great deal of skill. I would be more interested in the accuracy of the diagnosis. In other words, when the pump is replaced, will the problem be solved? Will they give you a written warranty on their work? Also, if you purchase the part, rather than them, and for some reason it is defective, you will probably be stuck with labor again on a replacement.

You make some good points, however, there isn't any problem it's just routine maint. I am not real concerned with having to pay labor again, I could do it twice and break even. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything too tricky in doing the replacement. I have replaced several in other makes but never MB. So I think I will let them do it.

Thanks.
