Faint tapping noise on 2003 C240
Dear All:
I've just purchased a pre-owned 2003 C240 with approx. 62,000 miles and am quite pleased with my experiences thus far. However, I donow notice a faint tapping noise which is most apparent at idling (probably becuase higher operating speeds drown out the noise).Inasmuch asthe car is still under warranty, is this something I should be concerned about? My father, who has a bit of an obsession with changing oils too often on his own vehicles, has suggested that the noise may dissipate after an oilchange, but the dealership has assured me that this was done just before resale. Others have gone as far as suggesting replacement of tappets, tensioner, and timing chaing.
Also, any assistance with regard to changing the oil would be greatly appreciated. I have already learned the hard way that this model is not equiped with a manual dipstick (or at least not one that comes standard w/ the vehicle). After looking underneath the car, I also noticed that there is a plastic shroud that covers the oil pan completely.
Any assistance with regard to these matters is greatly appreciated.
