Clunk noise from rear?

Hi Ladies and Gents,
First post so please forgive any fopars.
Have recently purchased a 1999 C200 and am hearing some very loud 'clunk' type noise from the rear (sounds like the rear axle area) whenever I drive off after reversing and/or having the parking brake on. Has anyone else experienced the same problem???
The only thing I can tell you is that the parking brake has been fully disengaged (at least as far as I can tell ie: not warning lights) and that it only seems to happen the once and seems to be more obvioius when I drive forward.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Even though the vehicle is second hand to me, there is still some Dealer warranty, so if it is anything serious I can take it back to get fixed.
Thanking you in advance.

Hi there;
I would like to know if the issue with your car has been fixed and if so what they did to fix it; I have already spent well over 5K at the dealer and others and all I am getting is a guess work; any help would be greatly appreaciated.
thanks

I have same issue. I hear it more often when I have 3 to 4 people in car. I hear it on the bumpy road does not matter car is at 2 Miles per hour or 60 miles per hour. I took car to dealer dozen times. They lifted it up checked it .. didnt see anything unusual . They even drove with me (2 people in car) .. did not hear at that time ... But it makes sounds often .. dont know what is it ... Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure it is coming from the rear? I had the same "Clunk" problem after going from reverse to drive. It was the front lower arm bushings. It also happened when going from reverse slowly, then braking. Also, is the clunk continuous as you drive or just once you move? Hope this helps.

sometimes they call it cross joint.
you got two:
one between transmission and propeller shaft.
one between propeller shaft and diffirential.
between them is center bearing.

I have similar problem with my C200 Kompressor. Happened twice after I sent my car for servicing. First time I drove it back to service centre and they somehow got rid of the noise. This is the second time it is happening but now the service centre people don't know how to get rid of it. At first they said it's shock absorber problem, had it replaced, but noise still there, and getting louder!
Everytime I drive off, up/down slope, over bumps, make slow turns, I can hear the clunking noise from the rear. It sounds like some merchanical part is under extreme pressure or some thing not fixed properly. But on higher speed along highways, I hear no sound.
