'84 300SD right rear acceleration 'clunk' -- CV?
It only happens when applying power.
It's been slowly increasing in frequency and intensity over the past 1000 miles.
I think that it's not the suspension, because, it is always does 2 to 8 quick consecutive clunks each time it happens (usually spurred by hitting a bump on the right side of the road, or by harder acceleration). The rate of the consecutive clunks is directly associated with the travelling speed (faster speed = faster clunks).
I'm always ego-hurt if I have to take my car to the shop for anything but tires and alignment.
My first guess is that it's the CV joint(s) on the right side.
I wonder if I might be able to swap the half-shafts, left-for-right, and call the problem goodnight. That is, unless I plan on doing alot of high-speed driving in reverse.
Could this problem be anything else?
The car's odometer stopped at 245,000 before I owned it . . . it probably has 300-and-change miles on it.

I would first check the rubber driveshaft carrier berring, they do wear out. If thats not it, then perhaps the exhaust mounts are damaged or missing. Another thing might be the plastic control arms attached to the rear axle (not sure of the correct term for them) just below the shock absorber. Also, the rear trans mount (rubber) breaks sometimes.

Here are proud ovners of 300SD.
My question to all of you: Is the 300SD capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in less than 4 min 59-7/8 sec?
If it is, then I will look for something to improve my 300SD.
