Changing plugs and wires
Have a 2002 C320 with 49000 miles. The car missfires (dealer recommended 12 new plugs and 4 new wires) I just don't want to fork out $600 for all of this. Instead, I will buy the bosch irridiums pregapped to 1mm. A set of OEM Karlyn wires (all 12). Independent MB tech things that the dealer is full of crap - say's problem is with 2 of the coils. Says that original platinum plugs are good to 100k
This will be my first attempt at changing plugs and wires. I have a bumper to bumper warranty but it does not cover plugs, wires.
I have performed light services like changing the air filter and checking for vaccum hose splits, etc.)
Questions:
Does anyone have instructions with visualsas to how to change the plugs (like which way to unscrew them).
Will I need anti-seize compound?
I have a universal joint to my ratched set or is there a special tool to get to the plug way in the back.
When I replace them, how to I prevent cross treading? Will they go in smooth.Or bitch all the way in (plan on using vacumm tube to gently turn the plugs in place?
Is the wire puller a good idea?
Are irridiums a good idea? or should I stick with oem bosck platinum plus?
When tightening the plugs, I read that they hand tightened, then use a wrench to gently tightened 1/4 turn - is that correct?
Should I remove the coils for better access of leave them in place?
Thanks,
