Default Change Spark Plugs and Spark Plug wires.

Was wondering if anyone knew how to change spark plugs and the spark plug wires on a 2002 c240? Just got a quote and it is ridiculous, over $1500. I see the full set of wires is about $133.00 avg and about the same price for all the spark plugs.

Default 02' c240 spark plug replacement

I also am wondering how difficult it is to replace plugs on this car, I have done it on other vehicles; can someone help with specific tools and socket wrench size.. im hearing its a slim-line edition.. also must the battery be disconnected..

another person had posted on internet of esp recognition probs after battery disconnect + ignition had to be turned on and steering turned fully left, then right then fully left again, shut off then restarted to initialize cpu.. is this an anomally or always an issue?

is there 12 plugs as well (2 per cyl?)

Cheers,

It's pretty straight forward. I changed mine and I am not a mechanic nor car savy(I did it under the supervision of a mechanic). There are a few things that make it difficult. And there are 12 spark plugs and wires.

The plugs and wires closest to the windshield are really hard to get too. I recommend removing the ignition coils near them.

Wait till the the engine cools. Kind of a no brainer but makes a big difference.

Do not over tighten the sparkplugs or you can break them.

I used NGK Iridium spark plugs on mine. I would recommend them.

Good luck. Took me 3 hours and a couple of light burns on my hands.
