CD changer install in 98 C280
Hi --
I have read all the posts on CD changer installs. I bought a Crutchfield for our newly purchased used C280. I pulled both trunk side panels and lifted the bottom lid and found no cable that looks like it fits the Crutchfield adapter cable (about 8 - 10 male spade pins in a rectangular plug). I DID find on the driver's side two cables -- a computer type plug with about a 25 pin female plug (like an old parallel port) and what looks like a coax (plastic coated cable with a male threaded end). Can anyone help? Did late 98 models get coax? Or are these cables something else? Should I keep digging on the battery side for my plug?
My VIN is WDBHA29G0WA5916xx (last 2 digits masked) - is that a late one?
Thanks all......
Bob

RE: CD changer install in 98 C280
Hi all
Still hoping someone can help me here..... my car was built 12/97, so it is not like a late model 98. But I have NO CD connector in the trunk, on either side or in the middle back of the trunk or under the deck.
Any chance it was moved to the glove box? any chance the coax connector (looks more like a bicycle brake cable) is fiber optic?
Thanks anyone who can help.

Ok - so I looked in my center console storage, behind a small lid in the rear of the strorage area, and found a coax cable that could be my CD changer cable, along with what looks like a jack to plug a multi-connector cable in (kind of like a large Ethernet cable)
So - do I buy a 3110 changer and a mounting bracket and install it in the console? Can I buy a set of extension cables and still locate it in the trunk if I dont want to lose my console space?
Thanks

to close this one out .....
I dug deeper in the back passenger side of the trunk and found the cable, all tie-locked tight into a bundle that you couldnt recognize as the CD cable.... clipped it free, plugged it in.... all is well
thanks to all

I'm pretty sure what you found in the center console is for a cell phone hook-up. Mercedes has a cell phone plan that can be added when purchasing the vehicle new. It includes a cradle, charging cable and a connector to an internal antenna. I have a 1999 c280- the wires that connect mine (in the trunk anyway) are orange and a light brown. I also replaced the factory stereo with a system from Crutchfield. If memory serves, there were 3 sets of wires that plugged into the back of the original receiver, and since i decided not to use the trunk changer (it was not compatable with the replacement Panasonic radio) I just taped that connector off and left it inside the dash.
I know you already solved the problem, but i thought it might help others, since replacing the factory radio seems to be pretty common.
