C280 1999 Engine quit while driving
I'm new to this forum, but hope someone has a suggestion.
Last night we were driving home and the engine just quit. The dash board lights all came on, but the engine was dead. I tried turning off the ignition and restarting it; the engine turned over, but would not fire.
I called MB Road Service...the first person suggested: turn the ignition off, press the brake pedal 10 times and try starting it again. I tried this about 5 times, but no help. All the electrical seems to be working...lights, instruments, flashers, etc. Just won't start.
I had it towed to the only MB dealership in town (Roanoke, VA), but this
is Saturday and I doubt they will be open until Monday.
I'd like to pre-load my brain with some valid solutions prior to talking to
the dealership.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Doug

Thanks for your reply.
I've had it towed to a local repairman that used to work at the MB dealership. Without seeing it (or running diagnostics) he said it could be a sensor on the flywheel. "That Model MB with 100,000 miles sometimes have that fail." I think I remember the MB Road Hazard HotLine technician (I talked to last night) mentioning something similar. I'm sure his computer diagnostic will find
the problem When I find out, I'll post it here for others to see.
Thanks again,
Doug

"crank sensor"...that's what the MB Technician mentioned over the phone (when I called from the roadside).
I should be hearing from the repair shop I sent it to Monday what they found.
I'll keep you posted.
