Hello all. Got my car back. The updated the software (which they've done before), and the head technician took it on an extended drive. He was able to get 16.5 combo (hwy/city). Still not what I should be getting. And here is what the manager had to tell me..." The EPA estimate is just that, an estimate. So many variables go into mileage that I cannot begin to dissect all of them. The best thing to do, unhappy as you are, is try to be as gentle as possible with the throttle. City driving, stop and go, rough roads and endless LA traffic all contribute to less than happy mileage. I wish there were a magic wand to wave over this but alas…these are machines."...
Thoughts anyone?

I usally get around mid to low 20's around town and around 30-32 on the high way and my car is always set in sport mode.

As a point to make, there is no Sport Mode!!!!

S W on the shifter means Summer and Winter - thats from the German manual!

Winter sets off in 2nd gear! Summer doesn't, Winter makes earlier gear changes - Summer does not...

On the older ones in was known as Comfort mode, what a Cheauffer would use.

Cheers

Valerie,
That is interesting that their driver was only able to get 16.5 in your car. During this period what did you drive? Was it a MB loaner? What mileage did it get.

I can accept that from car to car of the same model you might see 10% difference in mileage. So I may get 23.5, you may get 21 and someone else may get 25. I do not see the 30% difference you are experiencing as being typical.

I have participated on other forums. Mazda Miata and BMW 318 and mileage has always been discussed and there was not variance like yours. The rest of us are all getting closer to 23.

It is going to cost you ALOT more than me to drive your car over your ownership period and that is not right. You could trade it in....you could keep fighting with the dealer. I would not be able to accept 15 MPG in a small sedan with a V6.

I am spending about $70 a week in gasoline driving 655 miles a week in a five day work week. I put in $35 on Monday and it gets me to work through Wednesday morning. Then Wednesday before leaving work I have to fill up again so it can take me through Friday getting home. I have a 2004 Mercedes Kompressor and I live in the Sacramento area and right now I am paying about $3.21 a gallon on average. My dad thinks I need to trade my car in but LOL, if I traded it in it better be a brand new Mercedes. Ha Ha. I would rather get a part time job than not to drive a Mercedes. What is really, really funny is back in 2001 I drove a Chevy Cavalier and I drove from Yuba City to Aptos, CA on a daily basis to work and that is 1848 miles a week and I only spent $100 a week in gas!

Our '04 C320 gets 28 mpgon the highway and 22 mpgin stop-and-go. Our '97 C280 with 161,000 miles still gets about 22 mpg in town and 24-26mpg on the highway. I think that your C230 should get more mpg than either of our's.

hey guys do you think it could have anything to do with fuel blends...i live in phoenix and we have a winter blend and a summer blend of gas to reduce on pollution. now they say that it doesnt have ANY affect on your car but i dont know.

also i have a 2006 C230 sport just bought it last week. love it. it only has 15k miles on it. and yes the gas milage is poor in the city. it gets the exact same as my 1996 jeep. but also i live in phx and city driving sucks. you have light after light. add 110 degress of summer heat. ac cranked. i get 17mi to the gallon in the city....but open highway i get 26 and up.
