1998 c280
USE PREMIUM. I think it says it when you open the gas tank. It does on mine. mine is a 2000 c280. Using regular will cause problems. With any car I have ever bought I have always used the recomended fuel.
You can use lower the octain fuels but it is not recommended.[:'(] If you do, the vehicles computer will detect the lower octain fuel and adjust the firing of the spark plugs accordingly, thus reducing power and fuel economy. I realize that the higher octain fuel costs more at the pump but you'll get much farther on a tank of gas than you will using the lower octain fuel. Plus the higher octain fuels have a better cleaning/additives formula that will keep you cars engine cleaner and running smother in the long run.
