I just got a 1981 380SEL, 118 M Miles, within 5 minutes of driving each time, the temperature gauge shoots up, then after backing off on the gas and/or reving rreally high its settles back down and then performs fine. Any thoughts on the problem.

Also could anyone direct me to the best place to get solid repair manuals for this car?

Maybe you should start off by flushing your radiator. It could be a thermostat issue too..

Is the thermometer an easy reair on this model? Any speedbumps to look out for?
