I live in France. I have a 300 TD Estate,manual gearbox. Last week it started jumping out of 5th. This week 5th is unavailable. My local garage had a quick look and told me I needed a new gearbox, 3000 Euros. Are they right or are they ripping me off ???

why not just change the synchronizer?

yes because a special tool is needed to remove the bearing.

replace the bearing also if it's loose and the fork.
