Default rear wheel bearing grease

I'm replacing the c v axles on my 123. The old ones are off and I'm wondering if I can add some grease to the wheel bearings. They turn freely and have no play as far as I can tell. I could put it back together as is but I'd like to get some grease in there to be on the safe side. If you look at the bearing assembly from the differential side, there are some rectangular openings around the outer circumference of the bearing assembly. I'm wondering if those lead into the bearing. If so, I could inject some grease in there with one of those things that looks like a hypodermic needle that fits on a grease gun, Taking the bearing apart looks like a difficult job. If You replace the bearings, you have to drive the races out. Is there a way to take it apart enough to grease it without going through the procedure needed to replace the bearing? Thanks for your suggestions.
