Default ML320 Technical Problems

Hi All,

New member here, and I've got a couple of questions. I just bought a '98 ML320 the other day, and so far I love it, but there are a couple of quirks it has. The first is that the fuel guage does not function correctly. When I fill the tank is goes up to the 3/4 mark, occasionally drops to the 1/2 mark, then jumps up to over 3/4 but under full. It's been at just under the 1/2 tank mark for a couple of days, no movement at all. Any ideas?

Also, the previous owner managed to bugger up the signal lever. When the left signal is engaged, it doesn't disengage after making a left turn: the right signal works fine. What is involved in replacing the hardware behind the signal lever?

Thanks everyone, and I look forward to chatting on the forum!

sounds like the fuel level sending unit which commenly went bad on those vehicles. there is an updated fuel level sending unit u can buy however sometimesthe connections arent the same as the old one for the fuel lines. in that case u would also have to buy fuel lines and a new fuel filter. not a fun job either. its located via an access plate underneath the carpet inside the vehicle near rear of back left seat. sometimes removal of seat is nessacary. once u get to it u will see a metal plate glued down with body filler glue (white sealant around plate, or used to be white, mabey yellowish now.) once u get the plate off u will see it. not a fun job. but most likely the problem.

Urg... that doesn't sound like a fun job! I heard that it's possible to reset the unit by replacing a fuse in the fuse box. Do you know if that is a possibility?

Thanks for the reply!

Just thinking from an electrical stand point. Disconnecting the battery should do the same thing as replacing the fuse. Because replacing a fuse shouldnt reset anything.
