Exclamation Mercedes 300D 1979 Mechanical Knocking

Can anyone help give me some suggestions as to what may be wrong? On a right turn, there is a mechanical knocking sound from the rear passenger-side wheel area. It happens regularly as if it's related to some rotary motion. Of course, I can take it to the sahop but wondered if anyone had any ideas? Thanks.

Most likely the transaxle. I suppose you could do a quick visual inspection to look for torn boots and to confirm the joints are dry and/or worn, but if it's already knocking it's most likely time to replace it.
