Glow Plug light back on

Glow Plug light back on
2007 ML320 CDI, 175km
Vehicle starts normally but the glow plug light comes back on 2-3 seconds after starting. Time that light stays on depends on engine temperature.
Any ideas before I borrow a code reader?
