Default glow plug light flicker

I did a seach and couldn't find anything. Car starts and runs fine, but on acceleration from a stop the glow plug light flickers and comes on and off, then once you are up to speed it stays off. What do you think it is? It is a 96 e300 diesel. 87000 miles. I am the third owner and just picked it up three weeks ago, so I don't know the maintenance history.

Default RE: glow plug light flicker

could be the glowplug output stage module or glow plugs or a glow plug. both are common issues.

My advise for any weird electrical issue is to replace ALL fuses. Even though they may look fine and you clean them up, there is nothing like new fuses. Relatively cheap and can stop a lot of perplexing issues.

Look at what tells the glow plug circuit to power up. A relay, a timer, wires that might be touching each other since it happens at low rpm it sounds like it might be vibration related. I would look for loose connections very possibly in a gang plug where everything is very close and easy to bump other wires.

I am on it. will get back with you. Temp has been in the -0 area currently so I will weight for a warm up before i climb under the hood. Thanks. I have noteced that if i beat on the glow blug relay the light does not flicker for a while so i have a new relay ordered.
