fuel filter

RE: fuel filter
If you don't get an answer from someone on this forum, check out the Chilton import car service manuals -- you could possibly find it at your library or through an inter-library loan. I borrowed the 2005 edition and it has two sections -- the ML and all the other models. Good luck.

RE: fuel filter
You may be in for a real treat.
Has your ML had the Fuel Filter Upgrade ?
You easily tell by the length of the Fuel Filter. The newer version is approx. twice as long as the original one. (looks the same but longer) If you have the short one in there you will have to perform the upgrade, which includes replacing the hoses etc..
You might be able to see it by kneeling near the left rear wheel and looking between the frame and the body-- (the filer is located between the Frame and the Body)
If you can verify which one you have it may save you some time, because if the upgrade hasn't been completed yet you'll need more time (and if you're like me, buy the hoses) for that job. [:-]
Here's the instructions to replace the Fuel Filter
Be careful not to bend the fuel lines
1 Release pressure in fuel tank NOTE: Open cap.
2 Remove left rear wheel
3 Remove plastic inner shell from fender
4 Plug fuel feed line (90/12) and fuel return flow line (90/11)
5 Remove pressure chamber ventilation pipe (77/3) (Inspect hose clamp, replace if necessary).
6 Remove fuel line (52) to engine
7 Slacken securing clamp (91/1) and pull fuel filter and pressure regulator out to front
8 Install in the reverse order
9 Start engine and inspect fuel system for leaks
Hope this helps

RE: fuel filter
Thanks for the info, but I neglected to mention that I don't own a ML -- I have a '03 E320 sedan in which I am also searching for fuel filter replacement info (my post is here). I've gotten a different story from everyone I've talked to. At least your info will be useful to other ML drivers.

RE: fuel filter
Paulv..... That ML info was for the original question on this thread. ^see above^
I forgot to hit the reply to him instead of you.
It was for -----> demiklin6 who specifically requested "Location and replacement of fuel filter?...... 1998 ML 320 "
I checked, and for some reason I have no info on a Fuel Filter location for your '03 E320 sedan.
Sorry
Someone else here may be able to help.
