Default Fuel door latch

I have the 08 SL550 and the fuel door latch lets the door open when unlocking the car. I have the replacement latch, however I cannot and do not see where to access the original latch. Is it from the wheel well or from inside the trunk and how do I remove the trunk interior or wheel well to get to it?

Thanks...

the trunk interior panel is complex. alot of stuff need to be removed and you need to put the trunk lid in the service position, which youll need to people to get the trunk lid into that postion. basically open the trunk lid and then there are 2 sort of round plastic caps that are on the sides near the back of the trunk on the sides. I forget the size, and type of socket needed. its either torx or allan. then youll need to quarter turn them to release the trunk lid hinges basically then 2 people need to pull up on the trunk lid and pull it backwards, all the linkages for the hard top and trunk lid will extend rearward. this way you can remove the side panel in the trunk.
