Front License Plate holder wire

I just bought 2007 SL550. I removed the front license plate holder as I don't require one here in Arizona.
There is a wire connected to the holder. Does anyone know what this is for?

Do you have any pictures?

Daughter is borrowing the car right now, so I can't check it myself.

Is it an electrical wire or something else?

Likely an electrical wire for the light up around the plate. Picture would help as mentioned.
