Engine Running High RPMs

Engine Running High RPMs
Alright to begin please forgive my lack of knowledge/terminology. I've come here for help!
I just purchased my first Mercedes a little Baby Benz (1991 190e 2.3L)
I've noticed that the engine seems to be revving really fast - 20-25 rpms when idling and when in drive the car will travel at 30 to 35 mph without putting my foot on the gas. What could be causing this and what do I need to do to have it fixed.
I'd appreciate any help - thanks so much

RE: Engine Running High RPMs
this will more than pay you back. www.alldata.com start by looking for broken vacuum lines or cracked or hard, maybe a broken spring on the throttle linkages, something unplugged. leaks can be found by spraying carburetor cleaner around hoses and the fuel injectors while the car is idling. if the engine changes ilde there's a leak. may or may not solve anything, but it's a start. subscribe to alldata. doesn't cover everything, but helps. before long you'll be helping us.
