clutch replacement tip
I'm replacing the clutch on my '81 w123 240d .I've done this job before but not on this car. Does anyone know how far I need to lower the trans to do this? The bottom of the trans is 16" off the floor (as I now have the car jacked up and safely supported) and the trans jack is 11" tall. So, I could lower it 5" is that enough? And the jack tilts front to back. I can raise the car more but it would be fairly troublesome to do in such a way that I feel safe under the car. Also, can I unbolt the front flex plate and the center bearing support and push the shaft to the side instead of removing the whole thing as the haynes manual suggests? If anyone has some good hints on doing this job , I would be most grateful.
