C240 Windshield wiper motor
Hello Everyone,
I will soon need a new wiper motor as my wipers have decided to park themselves vertically on my winshield. They still function at this time but the park themselves perpendicular to their normal position. The dealership, for lack of a better word, wants a grand to replace this motor. I can purchase a motor for $250 (OEM) or less. Has anyone had any experience with replacing the wiper motor. The Benz is a 2001 C240 with >85K. I think this is very premature for this motor to quit. I have a 16 year old Saab that still works fine.
Thanks,
Zippy50

RE: C240 Windshield wiper motor
If your wipers are working normally and only park at the wrong place, it could just be the parking switch in the motor.
There is one wire going to the motor which is life (+12V) all the time when ignition on. That connects to a switch in the motor to keep
it going until it comes to the correct parking position no matter when you switch off the motor using the wiper switch.
In W123 and the older cars, the motor can be dismantled and repaired. I am not sure how to go about it for your car.

RE: C240 Windshield wiper motor
I have a friend who just paid $960 for a wiper motor.
I still can't believe it. When my motor gives way I am going to stop driving in the rain.
You are right - that is definitely a premature failure. I think Shan is right too though if it is just a parking position. I am surprised that the dealership is telling you to replace the motor. It is an easy fix, and your motor should be fine.
Based on the fact that it is only 5 years old, even if it is not on warranty, you should let the dealership hear a complaint. And if you can't fix it, maybe you can just deal with them being parked vertically rather than part with a hard earned $1000
