sounds like timing on ignition.

you got sparks now? you have timing lights?

Hi Sleepwalker ,
Yes i have sparks now ,as i say it is
trying to run , yes i have checked timing & is Ok .Is it possible
it is running on 5th injector only ?
Plugs dont seem to be getting wet .I think its fuel starvation
.Plenty of fuel getting up to fuel distributor .How crucial is the
routing & integrity of the vacuum pipng .would a wrong connection
or leak cause these symptoms ?
Thanks Steve

Just had one more thought . Could it be the distibutor that i have used from old engine isnt compatible with ignition module .It does fit into same socket ,and i am getting sparks.I have checked on a car parts website & both car models ap[pear to use the same part number ignition module .I would have changed over module from old car but unfortunately ,i dont have it .

they are both 4 cylinders and no problem about the distributor.

just try to move the ignition cable one step at a time to the next position, then adjust the distributor housing till you get a good timing.

put the engine on TDC, pull out the distributor cap. look at the rotor...does it face the timing mark on the side of the distributor housing?

you mean the cold start injector?

while cranking the engine, you push down the throttle plate and loosen the fuel injectors fuel lines. can you see the fuel coming out? maybe you got fuel problem too? if you spray some carburator cleaner on the throttle, the engine will fire up for a moment?

i think your problem is just minimal now. vacuum leak can only cause the engine to shake but it still can start and run better at higher rpm.

Hi yes when i push down on throttle plate i get fuel at pipes it is all pointing at timing now .I have lined cam mark on top of machined service on head also the peg on the pulley lines up with the pointer on the timing cover .The rotor arm lines up with scribed mark on distributor .It is starting to run now if a little rough .All plug leads are correct 1342 .I have also fitted a new set of plugs .Maybe its just taking a bit of a waking up .the new engine hasn t been run for a while by all acounts

think i 'm getting somewhere .it is running with a lot of encoragment from the starter .When it starts it is trying to over rev .If i keep switching ignition of and back on again to prevent it revinng its whatsits off .It sounds ok as far as firing on all cylinders is concerned ,its just this overevving problem to sort out now and difficult starting .I just wish i could find out if i have all of the plugs in the correct places ,there are 2 plugs identical pin configuration at front of throttle housing down side of fuel dissy ,both have 3 pins & both will fit onto 1 of 2 connections in the same area .I'm favoring that as the reason for the over rev as one plug fits directly onto side of throttle body & must sense position of flap opening
