89 300E great car but...
I purchased my 89 300E used with 60K miles in 1996. The car was in great shape, but the previous owner never took it to the dealership for regular maintenance...I took itto the dealershipto have it looked at and to my great displeasure they quoted me about $1300 for a bunch of stuff that had not been done to date. Well, not having that kind of cash to plunk down, I never went back and have had a non-Mercedes local garage do the basic stuff since then. Everything has gone "swimmingly" until about a month ago when the car began to run very rough at idle, sometime stalling.

The local garage said it's probably the fuel pump and injectors (all original - now the car has 170K miles) The local garage will not attempt this repair, so I called the Dealership for the first time in 7 years, and to my horror they quote me about $3000 to fix it up....what do I do?

The car will barely run now, so I would not be able to sell it "as is" to any sane individual...and if I spend $3000 to fix it, I could probably only sell the car for $3000...anyone have any suggestions?

Moral support and suggestions are greatly appreciated!
