Hello, I am in the middle of trying to do a glow plug upgrade, however i am having a hard time removing the old plugs. they seem to be made of brass or something soft and i dont want to chew them up too bad during removal. are there any tips or tricks i can try? also just to verify these are 21mm plugs right. i bought a 21mm deep socket to remove these but it doesnt seem to fit. i could probably tap the socket on but i dont want to cause a mess for myself.

Hello Corey, there are a few things to look out for. first off those old plugs are going to try to stay in the block like they are trying to weather the apocalypse be very careful not to break anything. also you are in a cramped area. its worth your time to remove fuel lines that are in the way. the bolt size is 21mm. you can use a deep socket for some of the plugs but will need a wrench for plugs 2 (from the front) and 3. also the threads will tend to come out but leave the stem in the block a good trick is to get a bolt that fits over the small threaded stem and a washer and tighten the nut that held the resister wires on. you can then pull the plug out of the block. this worked on one plug for me. on one i wasn't so lucky. you may need some heat.

I just finished with my Glow plug conversion. it went pretty well except for some trouble getting the old plugs out after the upgrade though the car starts 400% faster/better. it was 19 deg f in akron this morning and with no block heater and only 8 seconds of pre-glow i was up and away. i highly recommend this upgrade to anyone with loop style plugs. if anyone has any questions about this conversion i would be happy to share my experience.

i was able to find the plugs on ebay for 14 bucks a pop, it is a great and inexpensive upgrade.
