Just got a S430 2 weeks ago and the check engine light came on today and my car doesn't start.If I try to start it a couple times, eventually it does but what could cause this? What did I get myself into???

Get OBD (on board diagnostic) codes read and come back. ie P0170 or whatever.

Tank fuel level?
Last refuelled?
Runs OK once going?
Vehicle mileage / Service history?

Hi, I purchased a 2002 S430 several months ago. Had some small problems that were fixed. A diognastic will pick up your problem. Could be a weak battery. If the battery is beginning to run out it can cause additional problems affecting the computer.

I'm having the same problem with my 2001 S430, when I try to start it, the engineturn like it's about to start but it won't start, better yet it sound like when a car run out gas and you're trying to start it and the check engine light comes on.Everytime it does that I have to wait about 15 minutes then it will start. twice while at a red light it died on me.

 

So I suggest you take my advice and get the codes read. Any harage and some do it for FREE.

Then come back if necessary.

A no start WITHOUT the Check Engine Light CEL/ codes is usually the crank position sensor CPS. However you have the CEL illuminated.

Is your mercedes radiator leaking? Have you checked it already? You have to examine the pavement beneath your car after it's been parked for some time. Goodluck!
