Default 190e Repair costs

Guys,

I am proud owner of a 190e 1.8 '91.

Lately I'm kinda less proud. This has to do with the fact my cooling system is breaking down. It started leaking so i went to a garage to have it fixed. The thing is: I'm not sure about the costs. I'd like to ask u guys if I'm paying to much.

The first repair was the Cooler (radiator). He replaced it by a new Behr cooler. Suspicious fact was that the mercedes sign was removed from the cooler. This repair cost me 200EUR

After the first repair the cooling system started leaking again. Went back to the garage. They sad it was the waterpomp. The pump had broken that fast after the cooler replacement because the leak in the cooler put the pressure of the pump. So by replacing the leak cooler full pressure was put back on the pump an it crashed to. [They said].

So now i'm having a second repair. This one is the replacement of the water pump. It will cost me 175EUR.

I'm living in Holland. Prices could vary among different countries.

If anybody could give me an indication of how much the part would cost and how long it would take to replace them i would be very happy.

Thx in advance.

With regards,

that's a bullpoop reason.

they should have done a pressure test on the first place and found out that it was the pump and not radiator problem.

radiator costs 308 eur, so it's not original. it's aftermarket or the thin one use for without air-conditioner version. replacing takes 0.8 hour.

water pump costs about 183 eur...so the price is okay. replacing takes 2.3 hours.

Thx sleepwalker...

The radiator was indeed the thin one used for without air-conditioner. Think i made a good decision to go to the guy. I went to a Mercedes garage first, they put pressure on the cooling system, but couldn't find any leaks. They thought it could be a leak in the engine, which would cost my a lot to repair.

I will be posting again about the final result of my repair. In the mean time you can think of something i could do for you Sleepwalker

they should hav remove the belt and wiggle the water pump pulley as normal procedure.
