Default SL 600 maintenance costs

I see many comments about the high maintenance costs of the SL600 v-12 as compared to the SL500. Can anyone provide specifics such as, for instance, the cost of a routine service (tune-up, plugs, filters, etc.)

It seems to me that both the SL-500s and 600s from the early mid 90's represent outstanding value and I'm seriously considering buying one or the other. Based on what I've seen to date, it seems the V-12s may be the best value

Thanks

Thanks, but I was more interested in $$ figures for 'periodic' services. For instance, basic 15K service for my 3.2 911 carrera is about $1100 at a local shop. For a Ferrari V-12, a major service is about $8K. What about the SL's?

Also, any idea where I can find total production quantities on the SL500/600?

many thanks

most dealers got this service package menu with the parts, price and labor on it.

it also varies on every workshop.

you may give them a ring and ask for it.

That type of work usually don't warrant a substansial difference in price between the SL500/SL600, but keep in mind that for some reason when some shops hear Mercedes, V-12, and SL in one line, they get dollar signs in their eyes. Try to stray away from those types though.

I googled mercedes s600 and found a parts supplier here and was shocked at how reasonable parts are for the V12 (yes many OEM parts).
I am not yet an owner (7 previous MBs including a Euro '70 300SEL 6.3 and my beloved 87 300E to name a couple). I do virtually all of my own repairs and maintenance (if I can reach it I can fix it, assuming I can figure it out). I am inching closer to taking the plunge on this V12, admittedly a little spooky but I have also owned a Citroen CX, 2 Alfas, and one Peugeot, nothing can be more spooky than that combination and they were great cars for me.
