How would a 300SD rate? A friend of mine bought his new in 1979 and brought it over from Germany. He has been the sole owner, and replaced the engine last year. What would this car be worth? I am (obviously) new to this forum and would appreciate any words of wisdom. I also would like to run WVO in this beauty if I can convince the owner to sell.

and as far as off road diesel goes, not paying uncle sam his pinch for road tax is not only illegal, but unfair and un ethical. If you get dipped by a state trooper, its $2,000 out of your pocket and into uncle sam's. not a very fun experience.

Well I assume he would have to suspect something first to think of that. And if he's dipping, he probably have a slam dunk on ya in the first place and ya screwed either way. Or he's seen ya before and noticed a pattern and was already waiting for for someone to come along and try to rip off Uncle Sam and the poor sap to get caught always happens to be you.

Why do you think the 87 190TD is the best car? Performance? Reliability????
How does the 87-93 5 cylinder turbo charged diesel compare to the previous 5 cylinder turbo charged diesel engine?

Best all-around in my humble opinion is the 1999 E300 turbodiesel.Modern design, bulletproof engine,durable, safe, aerodynamic and affordable to buy, run and maintain. Can't beat it.
