Default transmission modulator

I have a 1985 300cd Cal.
Transmission has a fairly hard shift from 2 to 3.
Presently replacing the modulator. Having a tuff time trying to pull it out of the trans. Any helpful ideas would be appreciated.
Also after installing new one, what values and procedures should be used to adjust modulator? Tranny # 722.416 black modulator. I was told this should be the first step in solving the hard shift. Thank you in advance.

On some models the Modulator Pin is plastic. People have said you should have a new one in hand before your remove the Modulator because it is extremely common for it to break when you pull it out.

Adjustment info below.

Thank you Desiel9112, looks like I'm going to be a rocket scientist after this task! The new one I got does have a plastic pin, have not taken old one out yet. I guess I just pull, pull, pull, and pull again. Is there a better way to get it out?
On the install, does the pin go in first or do they slide in together? Thanks
