Default RE: sent wife in to have the vacuum pump replaced

Well considering that the guy is a total scam and charged $650 for a rebuilt pump after quoting $400 for a new pump it's not so strange.

The overheating only occurred because the radiator hose was completely lose and there was no coolant. As soon as I added coolant and connected the hose, there was no overheating.

I am glad my wife stopped and did not drive after that happened. !@#$@#$

ORIGINAL: AMGMercedes

After a few days the car overheated with some smoke.
The large hose to the radiator was not attached at all and there was no coolant/water at all.
It's odd that all this is starting after a trip to the mechanic. I would think that the white greasy coating has nothing to do with anything. After all, tranny fluid is red and coolant is blue...doesn't make sense. With the overheating issue, it was probably their fault, start with the thermostat and if that doesn't work then go with a new radiator. Purchase it yourself and you will save about 75% excluding install...

Drive it around for a week or so. That stuff happened to me and like a few days later after refilling the coolant tank, it happened again. May be different in your case, but that mechanic probably didn't drain the coolant.
