Possible Buyer: 84? 300TD
All, I've been reading through a number of the posts here in search of some info on a 84-[?] 300TD wagon that I may have a chance to purchase. The owner may be on this forum, so I won't mention the location.
The car is blue with a beige interior. Cosmetically it needs work [but who doesn't after ~30 years]. The car doesn't currently run according to the owner. It was was several years ago after he noticed white smoke at highway speeds. It was towed home and immediately parked. It has a completely rebuilt transmission and much of the motor has been gone through. Not sure of the condition on the vacuum system, fuel system or electrical system. The owner quoted that the A/C was converted to R134a and worked very well when parked.
Personally, I'm mechanically competent, so I can perform nearly all the work myself. I'm personally familiar with restoring German and British autos, so this project isn't scary.
My question is the cost. What is the relative cost of a 300TD wagon [complete car, nothing missing] that needs mechanical and cosmetic work? It may require $150 to get it running or $2k... I simply don't know.
Any thoughts/help would be greatly appreciated.

ForcedI, thanks for the note. That's very unfortunate. I'll keep looking for a better candidate.
