New MB Diesel Purchase?
#1
Thinking of buying son Diesel 300E for college, and beyond.....
I am interested in purchasing a used 300E Diesel for my son who just started college. It is my intent to purchase him something that will be not only dependable and safe, but last him thru college and the beginning of his professional career(what ever that may be). The two models we are presently considering are 1996 300E D(182K mi), and 1998 300E TD(202K mi).
I would appreciate some input on which would be preferable(Turbo, or non-Turbo). If the present mileage should be a consideration. And if there are any reoccurring issues that should be anticipated in either model(e.g. mechanical failures, ongoing maintenance considerations, etc). Also, would you suggest any initial maintenance (e.g. fuel filter replacement, etc.).
I feel that I owe this to him after the nightmare of a summer we have had with his 1993 300E (Gas Model).

Thank You for the quick reply. What do you mean by 'Spring Perch'? Two of the three cars that I am interested in do have some rust behind the front wheel, and on the rear 'fender flare' as well.
Is that what you mean by a 'Spring Perch Failure'?
