I am new to mb diesels, so I could be very wrong, but I think on my car this leaking oil cap problemmay haveto do with the combustion pressure leaking past the piston rings and creating a crankcase pressure. When I unhooked the breather tube and put my finger over the hole with the motor running, I could feel the air, when I pressed and plugged it, you would feel the pressure build up in just a few seconds. There was also oil in my turbo intake pipe and air filter housing. I don't know if this is normal, but my car is a 1984 300sd with 240k miles.
My car too is 1984 300SD with 278k mi i checked myairfilter housing and there is no trace of oil so that means itsgood(i guess)Yesterday i cleaned the oil stained area again and now its leaking towards the injector side (at lease it dose not leak toward the exhaust manifold), so i am thinking to replacingmy valve cover....
so took out the valve cover and lay it on the table and its ok, o i decided to clean the entire valve cover and i took a close look @ the valve cover and found some deep scoring near the oil cap area i dont think they are deep enough but i am just concern...
