I am about to acquire a 1987 MB 300 sdl clean with 130,000 original miles! The records are not available but the car runs beautifully. This will be my first MB diesel and I need asssistance from the pros. Please help as I would like to insure that everything runs fine. Any basic tuneup needed! what should I concentrate on? I intend to change all fluids and get new glow plugs. Anything else? Please help!
Why new glow plugs? Are the old one broken, or you just want to fix something, that is not broken?
The only issue with this model is aluminum engine head, that like to crack more, than the average.
Keep you cooling system in perfect condition and don't allow the engine gets overheated.
Otherwise enjoy the car. If you can keep up with deteriorated seals and rubbers, it might last for another 20 years easily.
At 130k this engine is consider broken-in anyway.
