Default transmissions

Are you asking if another make of transmission will adapt the MB motor to the jeep drive train or are you going to use the MB motor and MB transmission and is it a 4spd or 5spd standard or an automatic. Also is it a 3L 5cyl OM 617 or a 2.5L 602. series motor and transmission. What year and model of car did it come out of. More info , more help Cheers Dan

Default transmission hookup

I am not aware of any transmissions that will bolt up to a mercedes engine except mercedes. Your best bet is to make an adaptor plate to mate the engine and trans. It has to be very accurate ie: within a couple thousands of an inch of being concentric with the engine and transmission. Otherwise there will be stresses on the transmission input shaft as well as the rear of the crankshaft. The mounting bolts have to be pretty exact as well. The starter drive has to engage the ring gear properly or it will kill both. A good starting place is the sheetmetal plate which separates the engine and trans. Get one for a mercedes and one from a Chev and mate them for a pattern. Cheers Dan
