Flap in the air intake???

Default Flap in the air intake???
Hi, I was just wondering what the flap is in the air intake as it is completely closed and I would imagine blocking air flow. also is there a MAF in there? it looks like it but I didnt think diesels have MAFs. Thanks for the info -Cris

Thanks. The entire unit can be removed without any issues? no check engine light?

Mines a 1987, so I think i'll remove it. I'm sure it is restrictive at the least, and I've already blocked off the EGR anyway.

Can you walk me through in removing or blocking the EGR in my 96 E300 and how is it
deprogrammed? thanks ForcedInduction.
