hi and hello,
attempting do all maintenace that should be done somewhat occasionally and the next is changing or cleaning what I believe to be the air filter unit.
ON a 1973 220D
When looking the engine area straight on, on the passenger side of the car thier is a black container with what appears to be oil and the big ball of steel wool.
Is this indeed the air filter?
I wash off the steel with soap and water and replace the oil?

should i clean the steel with soap and hot water really good or just let it drip?

 

Mahoney you may wish to see what an oil bath filter is before making such pronouncements.

 

Me and a buddy did clean it with gas and rinse it. Got a new "rubber connecter" booty ordeer as the old one seems the let some the oil vapors out.
