Default 87 300D Questions

My sons 87 300D Turbo does not have an operable cruise control. I tried to help him locate the unit and we removed the panel under the dash on the drivers side. I did not see any small electrical box that looked like a cruise control module. The information I found said it should have been there? Is it closer to the side or vertical panel near the drivers left foot? Or is is under the passenger side? If I can get it identified and removed I can attempt to reflow all the solder joints.

Second question is this car has 193K miles and the steering is starting to feel fairly loose. I suspect there are some worn steering linkage components. Any tips on what to look for and what items tend to wear out and cause loose steering?

I am not sure about the w124. But in the W123 or W126, the cruise control box is under the dash. It is an aluminium rectanglar box bolted close to the steering column. It measures about 6"x4"x1".

Do not know much about steering linkage.
