Default 83 300D Tranny Problem

Thanks Forced Induction. Up Date 83 300 D 189,000 MI. Purchased from Daughter. As suggested I replaced the (Old Style) Primer to the (New Style) that was leaking fuel as I was priming to purge the air out of the system. Much faster to regain fuel back to the injectors. I have noticed that #3 injector stays wet, could this cause air in the system ?. As of yesterday the Transmission only moves in Reverse , moves forward slowly as the motor revs. I have noticed that the past couple of weeks that it was shifting harder thru. the passing gears but seem to go away when the motor was running smooth ? The Trans fluid is red and no burnt smell at all. Any suggestions.

Default By the way

Was reading the forums and there is alot to do with vacuum. I did replace a 1/4" hard plastic fuel line with a 1/4" rubber line and used clamps to prevent air leaks, Could this cause the tranny problem. It has never slipped untill now ? No fuel is leak visable

I replaced both of My Plastic Fuel Lines with 1/4" Rubber Hose and it did nothing to the Transmision and of course it should not do anything to the Transmission.

Even with the Vacuum Hose disconnected from the Modulator your Transmission will shift.

You did not mention checking the Transmission Fluid level, color or if it had a bad oder.

I know when my Transmission B2 Piston broke I lost First Gear but cannot remember if I lost all forward gears.

Also a year before the B2 Piston Broke I had trouble going forward and chanigng the Transmission Filter resolved the problem.

This is what is in one of the Transmission Manuals.
Complaint: Trahsmission Slips when starting at 1st or 2nd speed ore forward star imossible but reverse is in order (Works).

Cause/Remedy 1. Make shift Valve Be Operable (the piston can break).
2. Renew Brake Band Piston.
3. Readjust Brake Band B2 by use of a longer Thrust Pin. If the Brake band is heavily Worn or broken renew the Brake Band.

It is pssible to replace the B2 Piston with an new one. I did this Myself. However, before you buy the parts it is best to determine if it is the B2 Piston itself or if the Brake Band is broken.
That means that the Car is going to be sitting a while till you determine the above and get the parts. There is also a fair amount of work involved just to get at and make room to remove and replace it and the related parts.

The B2 Piston can be as low as $106 or on up close to $200 so you need to do some shopping.

B2 Piston; Seal and parts
B2 piston number 107 270 04 32 (1702700432) {number cast into the piston 126 277 11 38}
{Outer O-ring 005 997 70 48} For the Cover
{plastic bushing 126 277 08 50} Replace the old Metal one
{Lip Seal 006 997 73 47} The lip of which faces inwards, besure to note which way the Old Seal Lip faces

If it turns out the Brake Band is Broken someone take the Transmission apart and replace it, replace the Transmission with a rebuilt or used Transmission.

If you get a used Transmission before it is installed you might want to make sure the B2 Piston is the updated one or change it to the updated one. If it turns out the used Transmission is not good besure to pull out the new B2 Piston.

I am trying to post a pic of My Broke B2 Piston. The large circular part stayed in the Bore; the rest falls out loose as you remove the Cover.
There is a larger Spring not shown in the Picture.

Cool Thanks Diesel9112

Thanks Diesel9112 , Looks like I have allot of reading to do. This car is a work in progress and I don't need to rely on it each day. There will be a time I take it on a trip and will need to rely on it then. Such a cool car.
