Default 73 220D AC questions

Well I did some searching- didn't find much.. But wanted to know if any of you guys have had luck with replacing the AC with an aftermarket one?

59 60 61 - 66 MERCEDES 220 york - sanden AC COMPRESSOR | eBay

This is what I have found.. In my readings i have heard the aftermarket is easier on the engine/ blows stronger/ and colder air (ahhhhh)

My questions are:
Should i replace the dryer?
Is this a viable solution?
Should I look at something else?

Anything else (other than lines and gaskets) that I should replace?

Thanks,

Chris

gotchya, I am also finding a lot about the oil in the compressor? Not sure what that is all about. Everytime I find a sticky or thread, it is 10000000 pages long and barely an answer.- yuck

There isn't any benefit to spending the money if your existing compressor works. Sanden compressors do the same job as the york, but use 5 small pistons instead of 2 larger ones.
The only advantage is space, which is why new vehicles use them.

Awesome, great info.
I know my clutch has seized, but have no idea if the compressor is done. BUT I have had two different mechanics tell me to replace it.. So I was going to do it anyway.
