1982 300D engine HELP
New to the forum and hoping for some help?
I have a new to me 82 300D with a very strange problem 205k on the clock and has been well serviced at the dealer.
On cool days less that 85 the car starts and runs great under all conditions. No smoke no noise no complaints. On the freeway or in town temps never go above 80-85c.
On the other days here in Bakersfield ( every afternoon ) it is a complete oposite. With or without the A/C on, makes no differance. It has a tendancy to run hotter than it should 100-105c but that is not where the problems get big. I notice that on the freeway there is a bit of surging, like it is running out of fuel. When leaving the freeway the car runs very rough sometimes it even dies. It will not smooth out until the rpm's are held above 1500. Like the old hardware store paint shaker. Today I made a stop on the way home from work, about five min. and when I entered the freeway there was almost no power. foot on the floor and 3 miles to get past 60 mph.
Here is what has been done so far.
clean fuel injectors
adjust valves
check timing chain and motor mounts
replace filters
service EGR ( even tried it disconected )
replaced rack dampner
verified temp gauge
I have ordered a new radiator to help with the higher than normal freeway temps but as this is not overheating I could use some help and ideas why this is doing this. It is temp related as I have driven trips of over 100 miles on cool mornings and no problem, car just starts and runs great.
Thanks
Gary
